Boat Days

We got out and about on a few boat rides this summer, and let me just say, each one was awesome!

On Labor Day Weekend, we knew that we needed to get in one last horrah of boating and beaching. The Bothun's invited us to beach it with them for the afternoon - so away we went! A few other friends joined us on the beach too and we had a great time enjoying soaking up the sun and tubing!

It was an expensive day for the Richter's and a lucky day for the Missouri River. First, Cody was trying to toss me Annie's hat, it blew out of the boat and into the water. No luck in retrieving. Just cm's away! Then Grace accidentally slipped off the boat (a great lesson for why you need to wear a life jacket!) and both of her shoes went under with her. One popped back up, but the other escaped us. Minutes later we were crusin' along back to the docks and my hat blew off! It immediately filled with water and sunk! BUMMER!

A few weeks ago our great and fun neighbors the Pope's invited us on a boating excursion with them! Grace had a great time. She drove around with Mark, (while I held Annie who was screeching because she was not a fan of her life jacket) and requested the song "Pontoon" dozens of times. The Pope's children are grown so they were complete suckers for her requests - of course!

Learning to drive the rig!

On the 4th of July we took a boat ride with the Larson crew. Just Grace and I went as we had JUST gotten back from the beach when it was time to head over. We knew it would be a late night, and neither Grace nor I had been on a boat ride in Pierre on the night of the 4th of July. We had a BLAST! We had pizza and drinks on the boat and floated down toward the Legion where a band was playing.

City of Pierre from the Missouri River.

Grace and Andrina checkin' out the water!

Cracks me up how protective of Andrina Grace was!

Heading over to find a spot to watch the fireworks! What a perfect, gorgeous evening it was!

Watching the fireworks on the water was pretty cool! And we all had a great time. The kids were completely tired (as were the parents) by the time we got back to dock, but so worth it! I loaded up Grace into the car and she was sleeping before we even got out of the neighborhood. I had to drive through Fort Pierre to get home, and it was so crazy to me how many people were shooting off fireworks in every direction - I've never seen anything like it! For anyone who LOVES the 4th of July, they should come out and spend the holiday with us! The place to be!

Goodbye Brookie!

Earlier this summer my parents had to say goodbye to a long time member of our family. This member of our family came into our life when I was in grade school! Brooke was a beautiful golden retriever puppy and grew into a dog that meant a lot to both my parents and I.

Eventually, Brooke's little world was rocked when Grace was born. Grace quickly became the star of the show, and probably threw Brooke for a major loop. This screaming child took up all of the peoples time in her life. But she handled it so well. We moved away, and while she probably loved the piece and quiet of having just my parents around, you could tell she almost turned into a puppy again when we would come home.

Her world was rocked again when Cody and I got our dog Remi, and Remi would come home with us on the weekends we visited. Remi at first was a complete annoyance to Brooke. She would try to wrestle her, bite on her neck and outrun her. But Brooke showed Remi the ropes of the place and set the boundary so Remi knew where she could and couldn't go (besides the pond of course, because there is NO barrier between Remi and that thing no matter how much an old-pup like Brooke tried to teach her...heck Remi's shock collar can't even teach her that lesson!). But before we knew it, Remi soon calmed down and let Brooke have her own space too.

She was so loyal, so patient, full of energy, and was overall a great animal. I will always remember her and her hedgehog that she had to carry around like Annie does her paci. That thing never made it far out of her sight. She would carry her own leash on walks around town. She would run so fervently alongside Mom and Dad's gator just so excited to see where everyone was going. She was patient with the cats, and even acted like one half of the time. She would play and bark back at you if you pretended to growl at her and steal her hedgehog. A true character.

We were sad to say goodbye to her, but know that she lived a great life on Mom and Dad's acreage. She lived a long life, but every minute of it she seemed to be happy and healthy. She truly was the definition of a companion in an animal.

I thought I would post a few pictures of Brookie on here. They are really old pictures that I took pictures of on my phone. They were in scrapbooks from when I was younger.

Sometime if I find more recent pictures with the girls and Brooke I'll post those too. But for now, just wanted to share these of her golden days!

We miss you Brooke! Even Remington does!

Busy Girls

Annie loved the water at the beach this summer. And yes, this is the beach. It's actually called the island. It's where sometimes the river is low enough to create this island in the middle of the river. Dozens and dozens of boats belly up at the island. People play sand volleyball, grill, and hang out!

And of course Annie is a maniac running all over the place. With clothes or not, she is fearless!

Many wonder why we call her our baby raptor. Well, because she skreeks like one, mostly when she's happy.

And finally, one evening in August Grace asked if we would take her training wheels off. Of course, Cody and I had about a million other things on our to do list that evening. Cody wanted to mow, I needed to get supper ready, the house cleaned, the list goes on and on. But, I thought we'd better do it since who knows when the next time she'd be willing to take them off would be.

So I wrenched on the training wheels, took them off, and headed over to our neighbors sidewalk to the north of us. It's much more smooth and flat over there. I held her arm about 4 times up and down the sidewalk. Annie was cranking at me to help her run around the yard (she wasn't really full on walking/running yet, but was close) so I ran over to walk with her around the yard. Grace was then begging me to get back with her and help her ride her bike - she mostly wanted me to help her get started. She eventually got impatient (weird) and took off on her own - she's been cruising ever since!

All the while Cody was mowing the lawn. He came over about 40 minutes later and Annie literally began running around the yard, and Grace was riding her bike. I told him that proves how fast the little things in life can pass by!

Super proud of how quickly she picked up on this! It's been a fun summer to watch these girls move MOVE MOVE!!!!

More Park Days

Grabbing a few photos off my phone to share here on the blog! We've spent quite a bit of time at the parks this summer. One day we biked over to the park. Threw both of the kids in the bike trailer, packed a lunch and away we went!
Let's just say Grace was thrilled that we let her get in back here with Annie.
And let's also say that my husband was less than thrilled with me when I offered that up to the 6 year old.
I quickly began hooking it up to his bike before he noticed that he was going to be haulin' the load.

See, he's happy?!

Can you tell this girl doesn't drink much pop?!

It's oh so great to just get away from the house, forget about the chores inside and out, and forget that something needs to be planned to feed us! Just a simple get away to the park is often just what I need to unwind.

Summer Photos

Michele and Kevin stayed with us for awhile in August during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. We headed over to the park one day on the weekend to get some wiggles out. Typical scene at the park:

Grace hitting the ball out of the park and expecting some exhausted adult to go chasing after it, then chase after her to tag her out. Michele taking pictures. Easy breezy Saturday.

She got some really great photos of the girls and our family that she let me share here.

She also nabbed this great one of Grace along the river while they were out for a drive earlier in the this one of her.

A huge "thank you" to my very talented mother in law for taking these pictures and sharing them with us.
