..Vacation..

What'd we do on our vacation a few weeks ago? A little of a lot! We fixed up the fence (more on that later) and did a lot around the house. But, we also found some time to relax and enjoy the little things in life. This post likely will be awfully long, but it's a good glimpse at what we've been up to lately.

Stay tuned for a few more details about the grunt work portion of our vacation. Pretty exciting stuff!

Words, words, words...

It's interesting to see what I talk about the most regarding the "Richter's World." Here's a good idea what I've talked about lately - the bigger the word, the more it's mentioned recently. Fun! What have you been talking about - check it out with Wordle!

Sadie, Grace and Ashley

I think this is one of my favorite posts yet. I loved way too many of these pictures of Grace horseback riding with my good friend Ashley. Check out these fun photos, my girl couldn't have been happier this evening.

Ashley was so kind to let Grace ride Sadie...she loved being able to brush the ponies, I think she thought they were just a real-life My Little Pony! Breezy was also there for us to love, pet and comb. Grace didn't ride Breezy as she can be a little sass! She's too funny though, I loved her personality.

Grace often refers to this Ashley as "Auntie Ashley," much to the real Auntie Ashley's dismay! She's lucky to have two Ashley's in her life! We have plans to go to Gettysburg to see Ashley's new pony, Romeo, who was born this spring. We cannot wait to meet him and the dozens of other horses up there that Ashley has!

Thanks Ashley!

L-o-l-a

It all started on a typical weekend visit to Minnesota. We all piled into the car and made a trip to town looking at the cute shops around. On our walk downtown, Grace saw some pinwheels in the window of a flower shop - she needed one. She's obsessed with pinwheels. Currently we have four in our front yard.

Of course, my mom said she'd get her one. Oh, and by the end of the day, we also came home with this:

Meet Lola

Yup, a kitten. Of course the flower shop we went into had to have two kittens available for adoption! Cody knew instantly that Grace and I really liked this grew and white kitten. She was so stinkin' sweet. It was a love story. Before actually buying her, we went home and thought about it. Cody said that Grace could get her if I figured out how to not pay for it. Again, of course, my mom said "I'll get it for her!" (Classic Grandmother move) Mom and I went back to get her and the rest is history...including the four hour car ride home with her crying the entire way.

Amazing!

Recently, I had an opportunity to explore southeast South Dakota! Fabulous, there were so many places that I hadn't explore in quite some time, or at all! Here's a quick glimpse at my favorites...

The "Nemo's" at the Sertoma Butterfly house...By the way, I need educate Grace that clown fish really aren't called "nemos." Wish me luck.

Ahhh, I love the warmth and happiness of the Butterfly House. Jen, you need to take Miss Myah! She'd love it!

Pups

A man and his dog. Some may say, "awwww..." I usually say, "Oh plaugh! Sick!"

But here is Cody and Remi out visiting Remi's sister, Macy. Macy belongs to Cody's parents, Kevin and Michele. They loooveee it when they can reunite. They are basically magnetized to one another wrestling each minute they have together. Goons.

The most affectionate creature in the world is a wet dog. ~Ambrose Bierce
Cody's mom, Michele, can appreciate this quote, as everytime we go to the river with the dogs, they hop in the water and chase after her like she's carrying a steak.

With the exception of women, there is nothing on earth so agreeable or necessary to the comfort of man as the dog. ~Edward Jesse, Anecdote of Dogs
Michele, might think differently of this quote, as she often refers to Macy as "Kevin's other wife" and sometimes feels like she is "the other wife!" The way that Remi and Macy look at their male owners is something that I've never seen before from a dog that I've owned. They have such devotion to the men in their life, that when the men are out of town, the dogs often act totally weird for Michele and I.

Happiness is a warm puppy. ~Charles M. Schulz
I remember when we brought Remi home from Mitchell. Grace and Remi were of course instantly "friends." That term has to be used loosely on certain days regarding their relationship.

Remi when she was sooo little. A little monster.

Dogs laugh, but they laugh with their tails. ~Max Eastman, Enjoyment of Laughter

Did you ever notice when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad at you? But when you take him in a car he sticks his head out the window. ~Steve Bluestone

Amount of time it takes for a dog to "do its business" is directly proportional to outside temperature + suitability of owner's outerwear. ~Betsy CaƱas Garmon, www.wildthymecreative.com

Hoppity Easter!

Wow, this post is very, very behind. But it was a great weekend, and there's some good picture of the kids. Thursday, I arrived in Sioux Falls airport from Chicago, and drove the 3.5 hours back to Pierre. We got here about 5:00. Loaded up my other suitcase, piled into our car with Grace, me, Cody, Auntie Ashley, Grandpa Kevin and all our junk. Ya, it was a tight ride! But we survived.

We painted nails in Easter colors...

Grace got snuggled and playtime in with Cousin Connor and Baby C...
Grace helped Baby C take a bath....

They pigpiled on Uncle Cody for a ride...

Chicago!

In April, I went to Chicago for work. We met with travel and outdoor writers to explain to them the goodness of the land of "Great Faces and Great Places." We had a fantastic time. I was still recovering from having my wisdom teeth taken out, but I survived!

Here's Wanda and I, enjoying the Magnificent Mile!

We both got some shopping done. Of course, after our business was taken care of. I didn't take very many pictures, likely because 90% of the time it was raining...boo. However, one evening, we trudged out into the rain and got some shopping done. We both were soaked! I had cloth flats on, so my feet were freezing, and Wanda had leather heels on. Yuck! Our hair was drenched (no umbrella) so walking into stores we basically felt like drowned rats.

It was my first time really exploring Chicago, I had been there in high school. I really want to go with Grace on a girls weekend and take her to the American Girl store, the museums and shop with her. It's an easy direct flight out of Rapid City or Sioux Falls, so I'm looking forward to it. I just have to get both her Grandma's on the American Girl train (won't be hard) so that she can get that as gifts for birthdays and Christmas! ;) Hear that Michele and Karen??? :)
